Who is MTC?
Marin Theatre Company is the Bay Area’s premier mid-sized theater and the leading professional theater in the North Bay. MTC was founded as the Mill Valley Center for the Performing Arts in 1966 by 35 Mill Valley residents who were passionate about bringing a performing arts center to their community. Eleven years later, in 1977, the organization focused its mission on exclusively producing and presenting plays. In 1984, the company changed its name to Marin Theatre Company, as it is known today, and opened the doors to its 231-seat proscenium theater, now known as the Boyer Theatre. Since then, MTC has continued to produce world-class theater for Marin County and Bay Area Communities, including world premieres and west coast premieres. MTC strives to set a national standard for intimate theater experiences, featuring provocative plays by passionate playwrights. MTC is a LORT-D company, which operates with a $2.6M annual budget and currently produces a four-play mainstage season in addition to a new play festival, periodic staged readings, and development workshops.

Director of Development
Marin Theatre Company (MTC) is seeking a collaborative, enthusiastic, and creative thinker with exceptional leadership skills and a demonstrated history of relevant experience to serve as its Director of Development. Reporting to the Managing Director/CEO, the Director of Development is a member of the senior management team working collaboratively with the executive leadership team and Board of Directors to advance MTC’s mission through strategic fundraising and donor development initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage daily operations, create long-term vision and goals, and intentional strategies for the company’s revenue-generating initiatives including direct mailings, donor acknowledgments, impact reporting and targeted fundraising events in collaboration.
- Develop budget, maintain changes, and track expenses for the Development department. Process all department expenses, purchase orders, contracts, etc.
- Direct innovative high-level fundraising efforts that enable the organization to raise significant gifts from new and existing donors and prospects.
- Design, oversee, and implement large-scale fundraising campaigns to meet short-term and long-term fundraising goals with the Marketing team and with support from our development consultants.
- Enhance the company’s major-donor cultivation, including individuals, foundations, corporate partnerships, and government relations.
- Play a key role in Board relations and engagement.
- Play a strong leadership role integrating development considerations and effort into all areas of the company including artistic programs, community events, education.
- Work in collaboration with relevant team members to plan, coordinate, and implement donor and patron events, including spring and fall fundraisers, cultivation events, and opening night dinners. Work with the Board Development Committee to execute events, review and recommend changes following the events.
- Maintain database of donors, donor fields, and campaign information. Manage data to optimize tracking ability of a variety of organizational constituents. Develop strategies to enhance database and report usefulness for all Institutional Advancement activities.
- Grow and analyze data-driven research to help inform fundraising initiatives to drive revenue growth through donations and sponsorships.
Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Background in development at various levels, proven fundraising history, and capacity to formulate both traditional and entrepreneurial strategies.
- Experience in developing and managing budgets.
- Experience working successfully and collaboratively with a Board of Directors, senior management, and professional colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and motivate staff.
- Proven track record soliciting major gifts, building, and cultivating relationships, and leveraging a strong network of contacts.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills – ability to build consensus across internal and external constituents.
- Experience in establishing clear direction, operating against objectives, and meeting deadlines.
- Strong management skills. Experience in both leading teams and in working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of fundraising/ticketing/CRM software systems (Spektrix a plus).
- Experience working in a performing arts or cultural institution is a plus.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, the role that racial inequity plays in our society, and a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across differences.
The salary range is $90,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and 403b retirement. Front of House Lead
Marin Theatre Company (MTC) seeks a patient, attentive, and enthusiastic Front of House Lead to ensure all MTC patrons receive the highest level of customer service. Our theatre is a vital space for sharing diverse stories to build a more just and equitable world. Our mission is to inspire conversation, learning, and action to build more inclusive communities. We do this by providing a sustainable home for developing the work of diverse American playwrights and producing innovative theatrical experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of customer service experience, (perhaps you worked in a restaurant or camp,) previous experience working in the theatre/art industry preferred, and is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion. A proficiency with Spektrix, or intermediate level with other patron services software, is a plus.
Schedule:
Regular Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 12 pm-5 pm, and Tuesday through Sunday, 12 pm-8 pm, during productions. Please note that if scheduled to work as House Manager, hours depend on the show's run time.
Job Description:
The Front of House Lead assists with any operations within the scope of the front house. During productions, the FOH Lead is scheduled to work either in the Box Office, Concessions or serve as House Manager during performances and assure that ushers and front of house run smoothly.
Box Office Responsibilities:
● Provide excellent customer service in all patron interactions.
● Answer incoming calls and emails, and assist walk-up patrons.
● Sell membership packages, fixed subscriptions, single tickets, and Gift Vouchers.
● Sell and exchange tickets for all performances.
● Attend training sessions, meetings, and other events as needed.
● Oversee the Box Office operations when the Box Office manager is in meetings, on break, or out of the office.
● Assist with concessions prep and service during intermission
● Assist with any projects that come up throughout the season.
House Manager Responsibilities:
● Conduct usher orientation before each performance.
● Assist the Covid Compliance Officer with any tasks they may need assistance with during; any performance.
● Work with the Stage Manager to ensure play runs smoothly, including seating late patrons and reseating patrons after the show has started.
● Create and distribute a House Report electronically to applicable recipients after each performance.
● Support any FOH associates that need assistance before, during, and after the show.
● Maintain a high level of communication with all patrons, FOH staff, and other applicable parties.
This is a part-time (approximately 20-25 hours per week), non-exempt position with a pay rate of $20 per hour, reporting directly to the Box Office Manager. Outbound Fundraisers
Marin Theatre Company (MTC) is looking to hire passionate, articulate, outgoing, tenacious individuals for our Outbound Fundraising Campaign.
Applicants must be available to join our “Virtual Call Room” 4-5 times a week for 2-hour sessions, with flexibility for outside commitments.
This opportunity is perfect for any individual who’s looking to hone their fundraising skills in a supportive, positive atmosphere that’s focused on community-building.
Compensation
- $18/hourly, equitable bonus structure.

Responsibilities
- Perform outbound fundraising and marketing calls
- Maintain knowledge of MTC’s productions and programming, including education and new work development
- Stay up-to-date with donor activity through MTC’s donor database
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- Interest in developing fundraising/community-building skills
- Specific talent for building rapport over the phone
- Self-driven with a positive attitude
- Capacity to implement coaching and advice
- Ability to reach (and exceed!) personal and group fundraising goals
