Marin Theatre Company (MTC) is an equal opportunity employer and considers applicants for all positions without regards to race, color, religion, creed, gender and its expression, national origin, age, disability, marital or veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status. Become a Volunteer Usher!
Marin Theatre Company (MTC) is always looking for dedicated, customer service-oriented individuals to become volunteer ushers.
Our volunteer ushers are a vital part of the experience that patrons have when they first enter MTC. They provide an invaluable service assisting patrons to their seats, answering questions and most importantly, creating a pleasant and welcoming environment for all in attendance. We value you and your interest and generous donation of time.
Schedule:
Usher shifts are Tuesday-Sunday and begin one hour before performances start and last the duration of the performance. Ushers are expected to stay until all patrons have left the theatre, and the House Manager has released them from their shift. Please note that shift durations are dependent on the run time of the show. Ushers have the option to choose a preference between being a season usher (scheduled for every show in the season ahead of time), or a substitute usher (prefer not to commit to shifts right now and be scheduled closer to performances).
Usher Responsibilities:
Volunteers have many responsibilities that vary with specific assignments. All ushers must be able to perform all duties as training and experience allow.
● Provide excellent customer service in all patron interactions.
● Oversee touchless ticket scanners and jump in to fix any technical issues that might arise. Manually scan tickets if needed.
● Show patrons how to access digital programs.
● Help patrons find their seats if needed to avoid congestion at the entrance to the theatre.
● Open theatre doors at the end of performance to allow ease of traffic flow out of the theatre.
● Follow any additional instructions given by the House Manager.
Requirements:
● Wear any variation of black and white clothing for each shift. You will be given an Usher name tag and a pair of white reusable gloves to wear for each shift.
● Complete all training prior to the first shift.
● Proof of COVID vaccination is required prior to first shift. All ushers are expected to follow all COVID protocols established at MTC,
This is an unpaid position that reports directly to the House Manager. To apply, please send an email to housemanager@marintheatre.org and include “Volunteer Usher” in the subject line.
Casting & Audition Policies
All professional actors who are interested in working at MTC are welcome to submit digital headshots and resumes at any time to the MTC casting department at casting@marintheatre.org. Save the trees! No hard copy resumes please.
Equity Principal Auditions are held annually. Actors Equity Association actors are given priority slots. Non-union actors may stand by for open slots. EPA audition dates will be listed following the season announcement and are held in February of each year.
Following the EPA, invited auditions are held on a per show basis by invitation only. MTC accepts recorded auditions from out of town actors also by invitation only.
If you have not been called back, there is no additional notification sent from the casting department.
The casting department does its best to keep all called-back actors notified of casting timelines. Any called-back actor not cast will receive notification of release as soon as possible.
MTC is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in casting and uses a color and culturally conscious approach to casting. Actors of every race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, age, and ability are encouraged to submit their materials and audition. If you have any questions about MTC's casting approach, please e-mail casting@marintheatre.org.
