MTC ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN 2008/09 SEASON

MTC’s 42nd season will feature three local or world premieres and three 20th century classics - a mixture of Provocative Plays by Passionate Playwrights. The upcomIt includes the just announced addition of the Bay Area Premiere of Conor McPherson's THE SEAFARER (replacing the Bay Area Premiere of 1001) by Jason Grote). Other premieres include the Bay Area Premiere of LYDIA, local playwright Octavio Solis’ 1970’s immigration family epic, and the world premiere of MAGIC FOREST FARM by Zayd Dohrn, the first winner of our annual Sky Cooper New American Play Prize.  MTC will also present three classics from the 20th century: Terrence McNally’s sexually-charged FRANKIE AND JOHNNY IN THE CLAIR DE LUNE; Nobel Prize-winner Athol Fugard’s apartheid saga MY CHILDREN! MY AFRICA!, and the hysterical British farce WHAT THE BUTLER SAW by Joe Orton. CLICK HERE for more details. Subscriptions are not available for sale on-line yet. Nu Werkz Series reading of 'Magic Forest Farm' May 19 & 20

Don't miss a staged reading of MTC's Sky Cooper New American Prize winner MAGIC FOREST FARM by Zayd Dohrn, Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20 at 7:30pm in the Lieberman Theatre. The performance will give patrons a sneak preview of this play which will have its world premiere next spring at MTC. From one of America’s hottest young playwrights, Magic Forest Farm is a riveting story of a young woman’s desperate search for her past. Seventeen year-old Allegra is beginning to piece together memories of her early years in the Northern Californian woods on a mystical commune. Mixing with joyous recollections are darker revelations, startling images of the people she thinks she trusts most. A journey begins that will take Allegra back to the commune, back to the past, to confront the truth. All performances FREE ($10 sugg. donation).
