MILL VALLEY, CA—Marin Theatre Company hosts its annual gala and auction on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 6:00 p.m. at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon. Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of the Bay Area’s premier mid-sized professional theater in the North Bay, all proceeds from the benefit support MTC’s artistic and educational programs. This year’s event features a Celebrity/Playwright Challenge, in which MTC affiliated actors perform staged readings of new 10-minute plays by Bill Cain (9 Circles, Equivocation), Tarell Alvin McCraney (In the Red & Brown Water) and Steve Yockey (Bellwether). Each short play was specially commissioned for the event and written based on suggestions by celebrities and friends of the theater Elizabeth Banks, James Franco and Anthony Heald.
The event’s venue, the 100-year old Colonial Revival yacht club, is located at the foot of Tiburon’s Main Street and boasts panoramic views of San Francisco and the Bay. The evening begins with cocktails, music and a silent wine auction. During an elegant sit-down dinner, three actors perform the three plays of the Celebrity/Playwright Challenge. The evening is capped by a live auction, presided over by auctioneer Aldo Billingslea, who recently played the lead role in MTC’s Othello, the Moor of Venice. Guests have the chance to win unique experiences like a walk-on role in MTC’s holiday production of It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, a catered dinner at MTC on the Boyer Theatre stage, a trip to New Orleans that includes tickets to the Tennessee Williams Festival at Southern Rep and much more.
