Marin Theatre Company announces SceneFest 2008 – to register, please download the application form by clicking the link to the right.
Marin Theatre Company invites middle and high school drama departments to compete in SceneFest 2008 on Monday, March 10, 2008 from 5pm-9pm in the Lieberman Theatre at MTC in Mill Valley.
Marin Theatre Company’s SceneFest will be held on March 10, 2008, and will be open to both high schools and middle schools. It will be a great chance for students to perform their monologues and scenes for judges who are experienced in the theater industry. Each student performer will receive feedback and instruction, making the event an acting workshop as well as a competition. This is a fun and educational experience and we hope that you will participate!
Because of time limitations, each school can bring up to three scenes and five monologues. Monologues must be 90 seconds or shorter, and scenes must be under 3 minutes. Each scene can have up to 3 actors. The event will be held in MTC’s 99-seat Lieberman Theatre.
The grand prize will be awarded to the school that has the best overall performance. All participants from the winning school will win free tickets to the MTC production of A Streetcar Named Desire, a backstage tour, and a catered dinner with MTC Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis before the show. We will also be recognizing other outstanding performances, such as Best Comedic Monologue, Best Dramatic Scene, and more.
If you would like your school to participate in this year’s Scenefest, please fill out the registration form and return by January 21 2008. One registration form per school please. There is no charge to participate in SceneFest. Thanks, and we hope we will see you there!
Please note: Each student can perform in a maximum of one monologue and two scenes. Monologues must be 90 seconds or less; scenes must be three minutes or less. Maximum of three scenes and five monologues per school. Groups other than schools (such as homeschool students) can register as a school. Scenes and monologues must be from plays – not from movies or television. Original material is allowed. Scenes and monologues must be memorized; no script-in-hand. Costumes and props are not required and will not affect the judges’ decisions, but basic costume elements and simple small hand props are permitted within reason. Sound cues are permitted in scenes (but will not affect the judges’ decisions); schools must provide their own battery-powered boombox and operator, and no extra preparation time is available. Lighting cues are not permitted. Chairs, stools, and one small table will be available; no standing on the table, no violent use of any furniture.
