Rich, Poignant Comedy Shines a Realistic Spotlight on the Realities of Serving in a Fine Dining Establishment

MILL VALLEY, CA—Marin Theatre Company continues its 49th Season with the Bay Area premiere of Elizabeth Irwin’s My Mañana Comes. Four busboys at an upper west side Manhattan French restaurant learn the hard way when a slow summer season leads to harsh pay cuts, jeopardizing their plans, their dignity and their camaraderie.

Irwin’s critically acclaimed Mañana is the product of her 2013-2014 Playwrights Realm Fellowship and received its Off Broadway debut last year at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. This production earned multiple award nominations, including the Lucille Lortel Outstanding Play, the Drama Desk Outstanding Play, and the Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Awards.

New Partnership with UrbanSitter helps moms attend plays at Marin Theatre Company

Following the success of our first Moms Matinee in September, Marin Theatre Company is pleased to continue to partner with UrbanSitter, a website and app that helps busy parents find trusted babysitters and nannies, to enable the numerous young families in the Bay Area to attend live theater more easily. In addition to offering a special discount for Marin Theatre Company patrons, for the second time this season UrbanSitter will provide babysitters for MTC’s Moms Matinee on Saturday, November 7, at 2:00 pm.

More about Elizabeth Irwin

ELIZABETH IRWIN was born in Worcester, raised by Brooklyn and finished by el D.F. (aka Mexico City). Before becoming a playwright she was a high school English teacher followed by a very long stint as a wanderer. She was selected as a member of the 2012-13 Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab while living shoe-free on a Mexican beach so she came back to New York. She then became a Playwrights Realm Writing Fellow in 2013, followed by Playwrights Realm’s Page One Resident Playwright in 2014-15. Her latest play, My Mañana Comes (Lucille Lortel Outstanding Play nominee, Drama Desk Outstanding Play Nominee, Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award Nominee), received its critically acclaimed off Broadway debut at the Peter Jay Sharp theater in 2014. So far, it is slated for productions in 2015-16 at San Diego REPertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, ArtsWest Seattle, and Teatro Vista in Chicago.

From Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis: “Elizabeth Irwin is an important new voice in the American theatre and I am delighted that Marin Theatre is presenting her Bay Area premiere. She has crafted an urgent new play about the elusiveness of the American Dream for young workers attempting to make ends meet for their families. As our national debate intensifies around immigration and undocumented workers, My Mañana Comes is a cry for compassion.”
