This month MTC is producing the National New Play Network (NNPN) World Premiere of Aditi Brennan Kapil’s Love Person. MTC is delighted to be one of three theatres from around the country who are working together to develop this intriguing and groundbreaking new play. A NNPN World Premiere is a collaboration between three theatres who all agree to produce a new play over an 18-month time span. All three theatres agree to use different artistic and design teams to help the playwright hone the script through a rolling development process.

NNPN developed this model to help innovative scripts like Love Person obtain the necessary development time in front of audiences in full productions. Three theatres agreeing to produce a play together before any reviews are out ensure that the playwright and play can develop without the pressures of worrying about where the next production will occur. Our partner theatres in this exciting collaboration are Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis, MN and Phoenix Theatre Company in Indianapolis, IN. Mixed Blood Theatre commissioned Aditi to write the play and then shared it with the other theatres in NNPN. It made its way to us through our director, Gia Forakis, who we are excited to be welcoming to the MTC family for the first time.

Love Person is about all the different ways we communicate today in our busy, modern, messy world. Hopefully tonight, the play will inspire you to say hello to the folks sitting around you.
